Stockton on the Forest and Hopgrove Local History Group

We are a group of people who live in the Stockton on the Forest and Hopgrove areas and are interested in local history.  We formed the group approximately 7 years ago and have successfully published a book "In Days Gone By - a History of Stockton on the Forest".

We hold our meetings four times a year and these are usually to update ourselves on the activities of the group and to hear a selected guest speaker.  We also go on outings to places of interest - we plan to visit the newly restored Howsham Mill and Barley Hall this summer. 

We have successfully carried out some archaeological digs, with the assistance of Jon Kenny and his colleagues and we are proud that we discovered what is believed to be a Romano-British Farmstead within our village and have had the pottery from this dig assessed independently (thanks to a grant from YAYAS) which confirmed that some of it was indeed 3rd/4th Century.  

We are very keen to hear from anyone who has information or pictures which relate to our area and welcome visitors to our meetings or prospective new members.
